Education

A New Economy Requires New Capabilities

Education supported by CIP is focused on preparing future leaders and professionals with the skills and capabilities needed to manage the complex business needs of the knowledge economy. CIP delivers unique content at the interface of technology, business, and intellectual property strategy, preparing students for the modern business roles of:

  • Executive management positions such as Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Chief Innovation Officer (CIO), Chief Strategy officer (CSO), and Chief Intellectual Property Officer (CIPO) in multi-national firms
  • CEO and business development roles in entrepreneurial, knowledge-based ventures
  • Professional strategists in leading international management consultancies and venture capitalists
  • Attorneys in leading international law firms

CIP supported education is delivered through an action-based pedagogy combining theory with role-play simulations and practical assignments designed in collaboration with industry as well as real innovation projects together with industry, university research centers, incubators and science parks, and governmental development actors. The interdisciplinary nature of the education allows students from different academic backgrounds to both build on their strengths as well as develop new career paths. Below are different educational activities supported by CIP.

Executive Education

The Business of Intellectual Property (BIP) is the core executive education program developed by CIP and delivered for over ten years through collaboration partners in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. The goal of the program is to provide state-of-the-art skills and tools for strategic IP management in both an industrial and knowledge-based business context based on CIP R&D activities and international best practice. The program consists of two 3-day modules and a home company assignment (HCA), where the participants can apply the course content on practical, in-house issues. Members of the CIP academic and industry faculty deliver the program, where the first module is done in collaboration with Ruud Peters and Philips in Eindhoven, Netherlands.

Internship Program

Each year, students from CIP supported graduate programs participate in over 40 internships during the spring and summer at organizations all over the world including MNCs, technology start-ups, university TTOs, consultancy firms, and NGOs. This program has proven to be a tremendous opportunity for our students to gain practical, hands-on experience as well as for our partner firms to learn about the latest skills and tools taught in our educational programs. The program has been highly successful with many students providing high-level deliverables with substantial business impact during their internship, which often leads to offers of future employment.
